Central DeWitt Mountain Biking Team
Thank you to everyone who has registered for the Central DeWitt Mountain Biking Team. For those who have not yet registered, your student has expressed interest. If they are no longer interested, please disregard this email. If they are still interested and you have not yet registered, please complete the following steps to officially register for the team and ISMTBL league: 1) Please read over the information & complete registration at this link: https://forms.gle/uencibgAdHciELUr7 before the first day of practice on May 10th, 5-6 pm at Westbrook (practice time has been moved up an hour due to a soccer conflict). Make sure your rider brings a mountain bike, helmet, water bottle, and wears closed-toed shoes. PARENTS - you are welcome to bring a bike and helmet to ride with us. Let me know if you want to get into coaching, we always need help! 2) Also, please click the link at the bottom of the form to register with ISMTBL, submit the $25 liability insurance payment, and complete the waiver. This step is required before the first day of practice on May 10th to cover your rider with liability insurance for all practices and races, and to become a member of the ISMTBL league for associated info, activities and races. A Central DeWitt t-shirt is required for racing, but we can sort that out closer to race-time. In the future, we could put in an order for official jerseys here: https://sabersmtbclub.itemorder.com/, but we wanted to keep costs low this first year to get the team going and participating in riding bikes! Race dates and locations: May 30 - Des Moines June 6 - Marion (Wanatee Park) June 13 - Davenport (Sunderbruch Park) June 20 - Decorah June 27 - Dubuque 3) Please download the Spond app (Group Code: HOWLC) on your phone for Central DeWitt Sabers MTB Team communication regarding practices and races. Practices will begin 5-6 pm (moving the time earlier due to soccer conflict) starting Sunday, May 10th at Westbrook Park MTB Trailhead through Sunday, June 21st. Races are optional, costing about $40 per race ($160 discount for full payment of all 5 races—essentially one race is free). Financial aid is available for students on free/reduced lunch or those in need (code: DW-NC). In their first year, many riders do a few races such as the one in the Quad-Cities or the Dubuque or Marion. If your rider decides to continue practicing and racing next season, there are opportunities to ride in other non-ISMTBL races throughout the spring and summer, and in the late summer / early fall through NICA Illinois. On the Spond App, we will post info about additional mountain biking clinics, races, practices, and other events. We also often partner with the North Scott, QCA, Muscatine and Dubuque teams for extra practices or races. More info on that in May. If you have any questions, let us know. This is an exciting first year of the team for Central DeWitt. Thank you so much for registering and we look forward to our first practice on May 10th from 5-6 pm at Westbrook (we will email and post on Spond about any practice cancellations due to poor weather or trail conditions. Please share this information with any other families interest in riding with the team! Sincerely, Coach Ceurvorst (Central DeWitt Sabers Mountain Biking Team)
